The tale of the ‘Winchester Mystery house‘ is an intriguing one that plunges into the heart of the mythology of the Old West. It is also unusual in that the subject of this article is not just in itself haunted but rather was built (allegedly) because of a haunting.
Sarah Winchester was the wife of William Wirt Winchester, widowed when her husband fell victim to Tuberculosis in 1881 and therefore heiress to his vast fortune and a significant number of shares in the company that manufactured the Winchester rifle. The story goes that the grief of losing both her husband and daughter (who died in 1866) led to her consulting a medium who informed her that her family was haunted by the ghosts of all the Native American and Civil war soldiers who had been killed by the Winchester rifle. The medium’s advice was to travel to California and build a house ‘to house the spirits’ in order to appease them. So long as the house kept being built they would leave her in peace.
The RMS Queen Mary is an interesting paranormal site to study. Listed as one of the top ten most haunted sites in the US, it is intriguing to see such a quintessentially British artifact inhabiting a site in California. But, of course, being a trans-Atlantic vessel, she has always been a daughter of two worlds and I suppose it is fitting that a ship born in the UK should end her days in the US.
For those who are not aware of the history, the Queen Mary was one of two cruise ships (the other being the RMS Queen Elizabeth) built by Cunard and launched in 1934 to make trans-Atlantic crossings. She did this with style and elegance for several years, with a brief spell painted gray for military service as a troop carrier in WWII (renamed the Grey Ghost), before finally being retired in 1967. Another ship (the QM II) took over the name in 2004 when that ship replaced the now retired QE II (launched in 1969) as flagship of the Cunard fleet.
After retirement, the Queen Mary was converted into a hotel and tourist attraction in Long Beach, California where it is still permanently moored and has played host to holidaymakers, museums, the Walt Disney Corporation (who owned it in the 80’s)* and even a Roller Derby team (Long Beach Derby Gals who used it as a venue but now seem to have moved elsewhere).
And, if the rumors are to be believed, ghosts…
The pop/disco group the Bee Gees were among the most popular music groups in recent musical history.
Formed in 1958 by Manchester natives Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb, the group would not only eventually be inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 but also are one of the best-selling groups in history, surpassed only by such superstars as Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney and McCartney’s former band, The Beatles.
Along the way, they endured not only huge successes but also drama and tragedy as well, with many line-up changes, substance issues and eventually, illnesses that would lead to the deaths of both Maurice and Robin Gibb, leaving Barry the last remaining Bee Gee alive today.
The Daily Star recently published an article that claims that both Barry Gibb and his wife have seen the spirits of two his former bandmates and family members since their deaths…
The house at 108 Ocean Ave in Amityville, New York has become an infamous icon in both fictional horror circles and with those with an interest in true-life stories of paranormal phenomena.
Over the years it has also become an unofficial tourist attraction as well, with people stopping to gape at the house and pose for photographs with the house as a backdrop.
Many times it has even been suggested that the dutch colonial home should be converted into a tourist attraction such as a bed and breakfast style lodging accommodation or a paranormal museum.
Add those ideas to others including the intense desire by paranormal investigation teams to have access to the house and conduct the first known investigation of the property since the Warrens in 1976 and you have a lot of people who would like to see such a plan come to fruition.
One individual took this idea and ran with it straight to the crowdfunding website ‘Go Fund Me‘ in June of this year.
Although the idea of being able to actually walk into the Amityville Horror House and see the locations where not only a brutal multiple murder occurred but also the site of one of the most famous haunting cases in recorded history seems like a dream come true, don’t pack your bags just yet.
There are many factors that scream ‘get out’ at any potential investor in such a scheme.
Uploaded on August, 2nd, 2016 by the ‘Crazy Worldvdos’ channel, it has quickly reached nearly one-hundred and eighty views and has begun to circulate around the usual paranormal news and discussion sites on the internet.
In the video, a ghostly shape can be seen rising from the hospital bed and moving towards a doorway at the top of the screen as purportedly caught by the CCTV cameras at the hospital.
The Hopkinson Vintage: Antiques and Art Centre on Station street in Nottingham has been around for one hundred and thirty years.
Originally the building was the site of Hopkinson LTD, which was an engineers merchant who sold their wares to various factories in the area.
Now it seems if the employees of Hopkinson Vintage are correct that the original owner of the site, Mrs. Hopkinson herself has come back to make sure things are still running smoothly at her former business.
One of the employees, Liam Woodgates noticed some disturbing footage one night on the shop’s CCTV camera system that gave a little more credence to the story that perhaps Mrs. Hopkinson was indeed roaming the sales floor…
Jordan Moore, a forward for football teams such as Dundee United, Airedrie United and Queen’s Park and who also battled skin cancer in 2014 was back in the news today for the strange events he claims to have had while trying to rejuvenate his career while recently playing for Limerick in Ireland.
Moore claims that a man threatened to ‘send him home in a box’ if he broke a treadmill, that the local pub was run by the mob and that the club would pay him some of his wages he was owed for playing by getting change from the club burger van!
Although some in Limerick have accused Moore of an overactive imagination about their home and making up stories to explain why he left Limerick and went back to Scotland, Moore also talked about how the old convent the club had him stay in was haunted and that a nun had committed suicide in the very room he slept in!
Macquarie Fields train station was built in 1888 just outside the city of Sydney, Australia and has remained in use as a train station for the area ever since.
Along the way the train station has acquired more then just lost baggage and passengers who missed their train.
Macquarie Fields is also the home of a ghostly girl that appears at the station long after all the trains have stopped running at night and the passengers are all at their destinations.
This lost spirit has seemed to have lost her ticket to the other side…
Actress Jessica Chastain, whose credits include films such as The Help and Zero Dark Thirty, encountered a ghost while filming her most recently released work: The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
While staying in a house near where the film was being made in London, Chastain believes she made contact with a ghost, one that seems to like to play with electricity and has a tendency to keep the living residents of the house awake at night.
Chastain spoke about her paranormal experience while a guest on The Late Late Show With James Corden:
At first glance, the tale of the alleged haunting of a three level Victorian home at the end of a dead end street in Nyack, New York was not that unusual as far as a ‘usual’ haunting goes.
Strange noises and phantom voices, apparitions appearing near bedsides and objects moving around, seemingly of their own accord.
Most haunted houses however, are not featured in a widely circulated publication like Reader’s Digest, which this one was, but that is not this house’s claim to paranormal fame.
This house has been declared legally haunted by a New York State Supreme Court!
The Daily Post recently published an article online which tells the tale of Paul Rowland, a paranormal investigator who seems to have been witness to many strange events going on at Plas Teg, a Jacobean house in Pontblyddyn, Wales.
In the past Rowland claims to have captured the images of two ghost children on the infamous property which has been the subject of much exposure and debate including being featured on Extreme Ghost Stories and Most Haunted, including their Halloween event in 2007.
Plas Teg even had a visit from the pop group Girls Aloud in 2006 for the television special Ghost Hunting With…Girls Aloud.
Although Plas Teg is considered one of the most haunted locations in Wales, if not the world, recently it added another notch on it’s paranormal belt when Rowland claimed to have captured the audio of a barking ghost dog during a seance held at Plas Teg.
Believing the situation to be serious, the pop star got her house in Oxfordshire cleansed by a psychic medium.
The paranormal events taking place in the residence even mimicked the infamous Amityville Horror when Katona kept finding large amounts of flies in her home.
Thankfully, these flies did not create too much of a buzz as they were dead, but that still did not make Katona feel any safer, as she feels it is a bit more personal:
This one will be short and sweet because honestly this is just a horrible example of a possible paranormal capture.
First of all the video quality is atrocious and secondly there are so many explanations for this slight anomaly in the video that it boggles the mind that anyone buys this stuff. It could be a bug close to the camera, it could be a reflection from something (a crib mobile?) it could be Elvis returned from the dead to make a new album.
Even most of the comments posted on the You Tube link below say this is either fake or even worse most can’t even spot the ‘ghost’ content in the video at all.
But here it is in all of its…ahem…glory:
Norwich Cathedral, completed in 1145 A.D. has reportedly been haunted for years and now it seems there is some photographic evidence to back up those claims.
Stories of objects moving by themselves and other paranormal activity have been observed and the cathedral is a stop on many local ghost tours.
The photo, taken by Kerry Launders, shows what looks like a figure in the traditional garb of a Bishop.
Launders insists the snap shot is genuine, not a hoax and she did not notice the spooky figure at the time the picture was taken:
E-Bay is a modern marvel in virtual shopping and a great place to sell off that unwanted junk in your attic.
However whenever we allow the population of the world to log in and put virtually anything up for sale, you will get the few weird items here and there.
One such item is a purported ‘rock’ from the infamous Amityville Horror House, which can be yours right now for about two hundred dollars with shipping…
We all know the classical signs of a haunting by a ghost: Strange noises, cold spots, feelings of dread and the occasional item thrown.
However, as some in the Zhejiang province in China recently discovered, the ghosts they encountered did not just go bump in the night but bumped, grinded and probably did many other terrifying acts not seen since the crucifix scene in The Exorcist.
Emma Stone is known for her roles in such films as Easy A, The Help, Zombieland and The Amazing Spider-Man series.
She is also apparently a believer in ghosts, magic and the paranormal.
Recently Emma Stone went on The Late Show With David Letterman and told the iconic host that the ghost of her grandfather visits her to this day…he evens leaves Emma quarters as gifts…
A fashion store in Sidmouth, Devon has been the site of some paranormal activity of late, and not just the odd missing sock or a blouse tagged with the wrong size.
The trendy spirit has opened bolted doors, moved objects and even breathed on the necks of store employees.
All this is the apparent work of a spirit going by the name of Gladys who does not approve of the styles being sold…
I love dogs, they are amazing creatures that at certain times of my life have been among my best friends.
Dogs have also been trained to do wonderful tasks such as leading the blind, sniffing out bombs and drugs and watching out for our dwellings while we are away, protecting the property from intruders.
But what about a dog who is being trained to sniff out ghosts and other paranormal activity?
Holly Goddard believes it is possible and thinks her dog Glimmer might be the world’s first ghost seeking pooch.
We all know we gotta go sometime, and for many who get lucky enough to reach old age, they will live out the last years of their lives in some kind of senior care or assisted living facility.
Being that these locations would have been the site of numerous deaths during it’s time of operation, it should come as no surprise if one or two good ghost stories are tucked in there as well.
Such a story has come out of Grand Haven, Michigan, where nurses who work the second shift at the Grand Haven Assisted Living Facility say the ghost of a former deceased resident has come back to stay, along with numerous other strange occurrences.
Ghosts and spirits are not always Humans returning from the dead.
Animal ghosts are just as common as Human ones and one paranormal investigator believes he has captured a phantom kitty cat on video at the infamous Shanley Hotel.
A primary school in Bungoma County, Kenya was closed late last month after multiple girls between the ages of seven and twelve began to exhibit strange behavior such as fainting, seizures, tics and other involuntary movements.
